Historic Preservation Papers
One of my passions is historic preservation. These preservation-based papers allowed me to move from the bricks and mortar to the library — a welcome change at the time.
On this page, there is a National Register nomination written for a local Bowling Green home, the Joseph Dickey House (there is a paper about this house in my writing samples section of this site. This nomination was donated to the Bowling Green/Warren County Planning commission's Historic Preservation planner in the hopes that the future owners will take an interest in the potential tax credits available.
Also on this page is a paper on the sustainability of historic building practices as displayed in the Gardner House where my Graduate Assistantship work was focused. Talk about a small carbon footprint!
As part of my graduate assistantship, I wrote a modified historic structure report for the late 18th century Gardner House. The National Register forms for the property contained much of what would normally be included in a historic structure report and, to save assistantship hours for the hands-on work, I did not duplicate that in my report. I included a needs assessment, maintenance schedule, materials and supplier lists in the hopes of fostering a continuity of care for the home beyond my work.
